Run and Walk for Hope

Under Dr. Flowers, the Spirit Foundation conducted the First Annual Cervical Cancer “A Walk for Hope,” in 2009.   The first Cervical Cancer Celebration of Life Ceremony walk was able to draw over 300 community members to learn about cervical cancer from representatives from the American Cancer Society, CDC and Emory University. Since then, the walk has grown to become an annual event: the 5K Run and Walk for Hope in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Spirit Foundation will host the annual 5K Run & Walk for Hope in Grant Park. The foundation’s first Walk for Hope was held in 2009, drawing hundreds of community leaders and supporters. The walk has grown to the annual 5K Run & Walk for Hope bringing together members of the community and representatives from CDC, American Cancer Society, CancerQuest, Northside Hospital, National Coalition for Cervical Cancer Coalition, Kaiser Permanente, Emory University and Morehouse School of Medicine. The event is held annually in August, GYN Cancer Awareness Month. The foundation presents the Cervical Cancer Celebration of Life Ceremony to honor cervical cancer survivors thorough out Atlanta. The Run & Walk for Hope fundraiser is used to support programs for the underserved and provide cancer treatment and preventive services including: free cancer screens and healthcare for the homeless and uninsured at the Open Door Community; “Con Amor Aprendemos!/With Love We Learn!” education programs in Latin America, Haiti & Africa; and the “HPV Uncensored” awareness programs for high school students locally. Come join us for this fun, celebratory event which honors cancer survivors, builds community awareness, provides access to health services and promotes awareness of cervical cancer & HPV disease. Cervical cancer is preventable. Join us for the 5K Run & Walk for Hope and help us save a life.

Thank you to our supporters, runners, and volunteers for another successful 5K Run and Walk for Hope! We are dedicated to raise funds to provide cervical cancer screenings with free pap tests for underserved women and educational intervention programs in communities for women suffering from cervical cancer!
